56 Active Interpol Red Notices for FTX Founder Sam Bankman-Fried

A deep dive into the international manhunt for the former crypto kingpin

The international manhunt for FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried has intensified, with 56 countries now issuing Interpol Red Notices for his arrest. These notices, issued at the request of the United States, are a powerful tool for law enforcement agencies around the world to locate and apprehend wanted individuals.

Bankman-Fried is facing multiple criminal charges in the United States, including wire fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy. He is accused of orchestrating a massive fraud scheme that led to the collapse of FTX, one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges, and the loss of billions of dollars in investor funds.

The Red Notice Process

A Red Notice is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition. It is not an arrest warrant, but it does authorize law enforcement to detain the individual and hold them pending further legal proceedings.

Red Notices are issued by Interpol, an international organization that facilitates police cooperation between member countries. The process begins with a request from a member country, which must provide detailed information about the wanted individual and the charges against them.

Once a Red Notice has been issued, law enforcement agencies in all Interpol member countries are obligated to search for the individual and, if located, to arrest them and hold them pending extradition.
